The world’s leading hotel company, Marriott International, will reiterate its commitment to Saudi Vision 2030 at the inaugural Saudi Arabia Hotel Investment Conference (SHIC) 2018. With more than four decades of presence in the country, Saudi Arabia today, is the company’s second largest market in the Middle East with 23 operating hotels. Marriott International continues to nurture a robust pipeline with number of hotels set to more than double in the Kingdom.

Under the theme of ‘Focus on the Future,’ the Saudi Arabia Hotel Investment Conference (SHIC) 2018 is taking place under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President, Saudi Commission for Tourism & National Heritage at Marriott Convention Center, Riyadh Marriott Hotel.

Marriott International’s future growth strategy is testament to the Kingdom’s vision to achieve a thriving economy, vibrant society and an ambitious nation largely achieved by the raising of non-oil revenue to $160 billion by 2020 up from $43.5 billion last year. Travel & Tourism will play a crucial role in boosting this revenue and strengthening the economy. During SHIC 2018, Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International will join Dr Badr Al Badr Chief Executive Officer, DUR Hospitality, and other hospitality leaders to discuss Marriott International’s strategic support in realizing Saudi Vision 2030.

Marriott International recently rolled out its very successful ‘Tahseen’ program, a unique hospitality management development plan focused on fast tracking the next generation of Saudi leaders providing them a springboard to launch successful careers within the hospitality industry. The students get full exposure to the business of running a hotel resulting in a managerial opportunity.  Graduates experience six months of cross-exposure to all departments and 6 to 12 months of departmental specialization. The program is run in partnership with Cornell University and 32 participants were selected into the inaugural batch in September 2017.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has the second largest number of hotel rooms under construction in the Middle East and Africa region. The first Saudi Arabia Hotel Investment Conference is validation of the progress the Kingdom is making in regards to hospitality and highlights the country’s focus on this important sector,” Kyriakidis concluded.

Marriott International operates 9 brands in Saudi Arabia including Aloft, Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, Le Meridien, Marriott Executive Apartments, Marriott Hotels, Residence Inn, The Ritz-Carlton and Sheraton. The company will debut 3 new brands including Autograph Collection, Westin and Element while consolidating its existing portfolio of brands in the country.

Marriott International is the largest international operator in Middle East and Africa. The Hotel giant has a strong footprint of 23 operating hotels and more than 6700 rooms in Saudi Arabia with a robust pipeline of 29 hotels and over 5700 rooms in the Kingdom. The company has presence in 9 cities across the country. Riyadh remains the largest market for the company in the country with 8 operating hotels and 15 in the pipeline.  The company will also enter Unaizah, King Abdullah Economic City, Half Moon Bay, Yanbu and Jubail and will open its largest hotel in the country, Four Points by Sheraton Makkah Al Naseem with 1172 rooms in 2018 further giving an impetus to religious travel.

HOTEL SAVOY, A ROCCO FORTE HOTEL IN FLORENCE, REOPENS ITS DOORS AFTER AN EXTENSIVE RENOVATION PROJECT IN COLLABORATION WITH EMILIO PUCCI

Rocco Forte Hotels celebrates the “renaissance” of Hotel Savoy with the unveiling of its beautifully refurbished Florentine hotel, found in the heart of the city. After undergoing 6 months of painstaking renovation, the prestigious hotel, built 125 years ago in 1893, officially reopens its doors on April 13th 2018.

Director of Design, Olga Polizzi, has enhanced the timeless elegance of Hotel Savoy, using contemporary themes, hints of the Renaissance and the very best artisans. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that world renowned Florentine fashion house, Emilio Pucci, has collaborated on the project, bringing the very essence of Italian design into the hotel. Laudomia Pucci, Image Director of the brand, has teamed up with Olga Polizzi to create a unique ambiance.

The collaboration starts with Emilio Pucci producing an exclusive scarf for the Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy. The architectural décor of the historical Piazza della Repubblica, which the hotel overlooks, is redesigned in a typical Pucci way and features an appearance of the Duomo of Brunelleschi. The unique silk scarves, in two colour varieties; bright pink and turquoise blue, are encased on glass table tops, becoming the key decorative element to fill the terrace restaurant, where the benches exude warm Italian colours of the Mediterranean.

The hotel entrance and lobby have been reinstated to their original grandeur, with a five-meter-high corniced ceiling and two new large reception desks which incorporate caryatid putti on the four corners, representing the four seasons and the ‘fleur de Lis’ –  the emblem of the city. The fluid and mostly white space is punctuated with Pucci accents and colourful art and design elements, including paintings by Luca Pignatelli.

The Pucci touch continues throughout the lobby where the print has been carried over on cushions that decorate the sumptuous sofas in a strong solid statement of black and fuchsia, whilst two armchairs undergo the ultimate Pucci treatment through a velvet flower print

that merges renaissance motifs with a pop art spirit. The modern and sophisticated look of the hotel lobby is completed with a hand tufted rug featuring the iconic “Lamborghini” print from the Emilio Pucci Archives in nuances of pinks, greys, white and black.

In addition to the public spaces, Olga Polizzi has also created a completely new look for the guest rooms and suites. By reducing the number from 102 to 80, many of them have been completely restructured and have increased in size to offer guests a more luxurious and spacious experience: the Junior Suites, the Grand View Suites and the new impressive 177m2 Duomo Presidential Suite that occupies its own wing with splendid views of Brunelleschi’s stunning Dome. Furthermore, on the 5th floor lies the unique, two story suite with a panoramic view of the roof tops of Florence.

Each of the rooms and suites has been designed to give a sense of calm and freshness and the tranquil tones used, combined with the luxurious fabrics in a mix of materials, create a predominantly Italian feel, mirroring the essence of Rocco Forte.

Exclusively designed Il Bronzetto tables, chairs, mirrors and pieces from Chelini Firenze workshop, combined with C&C Milano materials, give Hotel Savoy a uniquely Italian flavour. Olga Polizzi says, “It is wonderful to see how many craftsmen still work and create their masterpieces in the centre of Florence. We commissioned many artisans from the city, a lovely experience which I hope will make the hotel feel truly Florentine.”

Laudomia Pucci said: “Envisioning this unique project with Hotel Savoy meant working closely with Olga and it’s been a wonderful treat. For the very first time in hospitality and in the Emilio Pucci history, we have translated the creativity, which this city inspires by merging the elegance of the Savoy with the vibrancy and sophistication that is embedded in the Pucci codes and in the city of Florence itself, adding Pucci touches in the lobby and restaurant area of the Hotel.”

Starting today you will be able to upload your 3D scans directly to your Facebook timeline from 3D Creator and be the first of your friends to have a 3D picture on social media.

This new update means 3D Creator users can share their 3D scans directly to their Facebook friends using Facebook’s interactive 3D post format, so anyone who sees the post will be able to rotate, spin, pinch and zoom in directly from the Facebook News Feed –  opening up a whole new world of possibilities for 3D sharing.

U.S. Beef Exports to Saudi Arabia

  • Delicious, high quality, halal, and 100% vegetable protein fed U.S. beef is now available in Saudi Arabia.  U.S. beef is exported to 110 countries, and we are proud that it is back in Saudi Arabia.  It is produced on about 900,000 ranches across the United States, 97% of which are family-owned.  Most are fairly small, and many have been owned by the same family for several generations.
  • The average cow grazes on a land area equal to several football pitches for twelve months and nurses from its mother for six months.  All U.S. beef shipped to Saudi Arabia is certified by halal certification agencies and comes from a small number of facilities approved to produce beef for Saudi Arabia.
  • Supplies of U.S. beef in Saudi Arabia are currently limited, but the number of restaurants and retailers carrying U.S. beef will grow over the next few months.  American ranchers consistently produce a high quality product, and restaurants around the world rely on this quality to improve the experience of their customers.
  • The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) imposed a temporary ban on imports of U.S. beef and beef products on May 9, 2012 following a discovery of an atypical and spontaneous case of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in California.  BSE cases in the United States are rare, and feed is regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The ban was lifted on June 28, 2016, following negotiations that ended in December 2015.  SFDA regulations for livestock and poultry meat products require that the animals slaughtered have not been fed animal protein.  In order for USDA to issue the required animal protein free certification, U.S. exports of beef to the Kingdom must come from slaughter facilities that participate in a complex Bovine Export Verification Program.

Smiling with confidence an issue for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as survey results reveal the need for immediate action to counter poor oral hygiene

The Saudi Dental Society and Colgate, the global oral care experts, have kicked off a month long campaign to improve oral hygiene across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of their joint commitment to raising nationwide standards.
Oral Health Month, the joint community focused initiative, launches on the back of a recent survey commissioned by Colgate, which revealed that more than 75 percent of residents across the KSA admitted to visiting a dentist only when they are in pain and need treatment.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the annual ‘Oral Health Month’ campaign, Dr. Fahad Al Shehri, President of the Saudi Dental Society, urged the dental care industry to support their drive to raise awareness of preventive oral care habits across the Kingdom.
“With more than three-quarters of the population yet to adopt proactive dental care practices, it is evident that there is still a major need for change in the way residents approach oral care. Through community led initiatives, such as Oral Health Month, we hope to increase awareness among residents of all ages, especially the younger generation, allowing them to start implementing healthier oral care habits early on in life,” said Dr. Fahad Al Shehri.
The effects of poor oral care is further highlighted through the recent survey when almost 50 percent of respondents confirmed they felt that having bad teeth impacted their overall health – which ultimately impacts one’s overall self-confidence. This is further proven as a staggering 66 percent of residents indicated that they were less confident about their smiles and smiled less as a result of having bad teeth. From the different age groups surveyed, respondents between the ages of 18 – 24 demonstrated a stronger negative impact to their confidence with 70 percent of them citing they felt less sure about smiling because of the poor condition of their teeth.
“We want to encourage everyone, especially the youth across the Kingdom, to smile more and feel confident enough to smile without worrying about the condition of their teeth. To do so, residents need to understand the need for better daily oral care and adopt proactive habits such as visiting the dentist regularly in order for them to have cleaner, healthier teeth,” said Mr. Marios Trikides, Marketing Director, Colgate. “With people feeling their overall health is significantly impacted by the condition of their teeth, there is a need for an immediate shift in their existing oral care practices and a conscious decision to introduce better dental care and eating habits to reduce any negative impact to their overall wellbeing.”
Almost half (47 percent) of residents surveyed confirmed the condition of their teeth directly affects their eating choices, and a third of respondents felt having bad teeth limited their ability to socialize.
As veterans in the oral care industry, Colgate are experts on the positive impact healthy teeth have and through several global and country-specific initiatives, aim to make people smile and feel happier about themselves. The annual Oral Health Month campaign in KSA offers residents month-long opportunities to visit dentists and receive an overdue dental check-up, for free. More than 3854 dentists across the Kingdom have signed up to the Oral Health Month campaign, pledging to support the initiative by offering residents across the nation a chance to make that change in their approach towards oral care.
“We applaud the consistent efforts of both Colgate and the dentists across the country to encourage Saudis to make preventive oral care an Amanah and enhance the overall health for themselves and their families,” added Dr. Al Shehri.
The partnership between the Saudi Dental Society and Colgate during Oral Health Month and the network of dentists who have signed up to the 2018 initiative is designed to widen its reach and encourage residents to smile more confidently, according to Dr. Al Shehri.
