the Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Information, held the 8th Japanese Language Speech Contest at Japanese Ambassador’s Residence in Riyadh as part of the commemoration for 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Saudi Arabia diplomatic relationship.

13 male and female participants from all over Saudi Arabia conducted their speeches in Japanese language. The given topics of the speech were ‘Japan and Saudi Arabia’ and ‘Japan that I love’. All the audience was fascinated by the fluent Japanese speech given by the participants about their unique stories with full of dramatic facial and hands expressions.

The contest consisted of two levels, depending on the total length of staying in Japan; Standard Level and Advanced Level. The first prize winner of the Standard Level was Mr. Cheblal Mohammed, the second prize winner was Ms. Izzatur Wulansari. For the Advanced Level, Mr. Mohammmed Alabdrabalnabi won the first prize and Mr. Baloosh Al yazeed was awarded the second prize.

Ambassador, Mr. Norihiro Okuda said “this is the 8th Japanese Language Speech Contest, but until the 4th contest, it was only among the students of the Japanese Language Course of King Saud University. Three years ago, the contest was expanded to the public, and attracted participants who have different backgrounds. Participation of women has started at the same timing and I am happy to see a number of female participants this year.

He added“Now, there are more than six hundred Saudi students who are studying in Japan. Those who finished their studies in Japan are now playing important roles in various fields in Saudi Arabia such as politics, economy, medical, science, technology, education and interpretation. We will do our best to increase the number of people who are interested in Japan and will be the bridge between the two countries. We will also try hard to enhance Japanese Language Studies in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
