Dubai Design District participates in designjunction exhibition at London Design Festival d3 supports 18 regional designers in showcasing their works in Middle East: Design Now!

Dubai Design District, d3 showcased the works of 18 designers across the Middle East region including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, at the four-day designjunction event, running from 21 to 24 September, a part of London Design Festival.

Held at Granary Square, Kings Cross, London, the show is a leading destination for design, arts and culture and featured a variety of immersive experiences, creative workshops and talks.

Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, COO at d3, said: “We were pleased to be a part of this prestigious event. The team curated pieces from some of the region’s most talented designers to showcase the expertise we have in the Middle East. We are particularly proud to have four of d3’s own designers displaying their works at the exhibition. As a design district, we play a central part in promoting creativity in the design world. Our participation at this leading event helps position the Middle East as a global creative centre.”

Co-curated by Suzanne Trocmé, British designer, curator and author, the exhibition titled: Middle East: Design Now! featured traditional materials, design methodologies and displayed the art works of designers and artists across diverse mediums. Many of the designers utilised traditional methods, materials and motifs in a modern day context, offering an insight into how memory and DNA play a part in the creation of contemporary artefacts and graphics.

Participating designers at the event included:

Alia Al Mazruie from the UAE – Furniture designer experimenting with low contoured seating

Aljoud Lootah from the UAE – Established young designer with a presence in museums internationally, who showcased mixed media furniture and objects

Ayah Al Bitar from Saudi Arabia – Showcasing her local inspired modular seating and contemporary prayer beads

Bokja from Lebanon – The designs incorporate traditional objects including Aubusson tapestries and modern classic chairs

Chacha Atallah from Tunisia – Bold furniture statements from the architect reflecting the region and spirit

Cherif Morsi from Egypt – New works from the established and industrial designer

Gafla from the UAE – Inspired by local culture, her jewellery pieces include pearl pieces and Oud receptacles

Ghassan Salameh from Lebanon – Presents his Zoomorphic lighting

Hayan Maaní from Jordan – Graphic design evoking culture and subculture in Jordan

Kawthar Al Safar from Kuwait – Sand cast unique pieces

Latifa Saeed from the UAE – Showcasing her Iconic chair

Loulwa Al Radwan from Kuwait – Contemporary sculpture pieces, rich in material, simple in design

Manal Al Maimouni from Kuwait – A unique seating piece representing visual memory from the region

Marc Baroud from Lebanon – Transforms contemporary normal objects

Nayef Francis from Lebanon – Interior designs and objects with a creative twist

Salsabel Amin from Egypt – Recent graduate Salsabel’s newest development of her student lighting project

Tinkah from the UAE – Graphic design featuring a high-profile branding project

Younes Duret from Morocco – Contemporary interior designs including furniture and lighting
