Celebrating 100 years in airport aviation, Honeywell (NYSE: HON) is showcasing technologies for safer and smarter airports at the Airports Security International Conference and Exhibition, to be  held in the Hotel Hilton in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 27th-28th

“As soon as a passenger enters an airport, Honeywell technologies are present, making their experience faster, safer and more comfortable and secure right through to the destination,” said Norm Gilsdorf, President of Honeywell High Growth Regions Russia, Central Asia and Middle East. “Our technologies drive efficiency in the terminal and in the air, delivering passenger security, improving runway and passenger safety, and raising airfield productivity, all of which makes flying safer, more productive and comfortable  in any airport all over the world.”

Honeywell has a long history developing new technologies for the aviation industry; both on the airport and airline side. The company is celebrating 100 years of innovation at airports this year, which started with an airfield lighting project in Berlin-Johannistal, Germany in 1913.

Other key  innovations include the first autopilot in 1914, the first commercial weather radar system in 1954, the first automatic docking guidance system in 1995, the first deployment of the “Follow the Greens” automated routing concept in Inchoeon International Airport in 2008, and the first passenger service landing in Bremen utilizing our GBAS precision landing system in 2012. Now, more than 500 airports worldwide now use Honeywell’s technologies and services.

“As we become a global economy, the demand for air services and planned airport expansions round the world is rapidly increasing,” Gilsdorf added. “In Saudi Arabia, where passenger growth is already running in the double-digits, this requires rethinking the technologies we need for safer and more efficient airports. Honeywell is a trusted partner of more than 500 airports worldwide and we’re excited to continue developing innovations that will move the aviation industry – among the more progressive sectors in the world over the next few years. ”
