Riyadh– 16th December, 2012: Under the patronage of UNESCO, Intel Corporation announced today that the third annual Intel Science Competition-Arab World (ISC-AW) will take place from December 16th – 19th in Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Designed to inspire the next generation of young scientists and entrepreneurs aged 14-18, the competition challenges Arab youth to showcase their interest, insight and talent in executing scientific projects based on the methodology and tenets of scientific research.
In the presence of peers and educators that hailed from Egypt, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, UAE, and Tunisia, a total of 110 students will compete for $25,000 worth of prize money and valuable prizes sponsored by the UAE’s Ministry of Education.
Dr Hayat Sindi, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, will be present throughout the event to mentor the students. She is dedicated to raising the awareness of science particularly amongst females in the Muslim World and is passionate about facilitating entrepreneurship in science. Dr Sindi, from Saudi Arabia, has also made major contributions to point-of-care diagnostics and medical testing for those people who cannot readily access medical facilities.
The ISC-AW 2012 will see a total of 69 projects presented over the course of the event across eight categories, including Behavioral & Social Sciences, BioChemistry and Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, Physics & Astronomy, Energy and Transportation, Environmental Sciences & Management, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
