UMC unveils the stunning new Giulia – one of the most brilliant examples of Alfa Romeo’s automobile excellence.

All of the legendary Alfa Romeo models combined heritage, speed and beauty, making them the highest expression of Italian style in the automotive world, and the new Giulia, which has just been launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by United Motors Company (UMC), the sole distributor for Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep® and Ram vehicles in the Kingdom.

A.L.F.A. (standing for ‘Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili’, which translates as ‘Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company’ in English) was established on June 24, 1910, in Milan, Italy.

The company has been involved in car racing since 1911, and has competed successfully in many different categories of motorsport, including Grand Prix motor racing, Formula One, sports car racing, touring car racing and rallies, competing both as a constructor and an engine supplier, via works entries (usually under the name Alfa Corse or Autodelta) and private entries.

The first racing car was made in 1913, three years after the foundation of the company, and Alfa Romeo won the inaugural world championship for Grand Prix cars in 1925. The company established a strong reputation in motorsport and this created a sporty image for the marque.

The reverence people hold for Alfa Romeo has grown with each milestone along the way. in 1962, the introduction of the legendary Giulia sedan boldly combined an enormously powerful engine with a lightweight body meant purely for street use – unheard of at the time.

The new 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is undeniably inspired by its namesake of a half century ago – in its elegant style, alluring details and impressive aerodynamics – and its own set of breakthrough innovations. All in all, not only is the thrill of driving back – it’s better than ever.

There are five elements that made Alfa Romeo one of the world’s most desirable automotive brands: distinctive Italian design, state-of-the-art, innovative engines, perfect 50/50 weight distribution, unique technical solutions and the best weight-to-power ratio.

These are the essential ingredients to create an Alfa Romeo and which deliver the ‘meccanica delle emozioni’ (or ‘the mechanics of emotions’ in English). The new Alfa Romeo Giulia line up comprises four trim levels – the 280hp 2.0-litre V6 powered Giulia, Super & Veloce models plus the brand’s new benchmark, the Giulia Quadrifoglio (QV), which is equipped with a powerful 510hp six-cylinder 2.9-litre turbo petrol engine inspired by Ferrari technology and expertise. Both engine options are made in Italy and built entirely in aluminium.

The Giulia delivers outstanding performance levels, but in an environmentally-friendly way as always, ranking best in its class in terms of emission levels, with 198 grams of CO2 per kilometre. And Alfa Romeo engineers also focused on safety features – the car is designed to brake from 100 km/h to 0 in less than 32 metres.

Genuine Alfa Romeo performance is fitted like a tailor-made garment with a distinctive design that expresses three typical features of Italian style – a sense of proportion, simplicity and surface quality finish. The entire creation pivots around the driver and the promise of an exhilarating driving experience with sensitive steering, responsive acceleration and prompt shifting and braking.

 The Giulia also features perfect 50/50 weight distribution across the two axles, a sophisticated suspension system that is an Alfa Romeo exclusive and the most direct steering available in the market.

 Finally, the Alfa Romeo Giulia combines extraordinary engine performance and ample use of ultra light materials, like carbon fibre, aluminium, aluminium composite and plastic, to obtain the best weight-to-power ratio (lower than 3), enabling it to achieve a dry weight of just 1,524 kg.

The top of the range Giulia Quadrifoglio, with its 510hp six-cylinder 2.9-litre turbo petrol engine delivers truly exhilarating performance levels – a top speed of 307 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and peak torque of 600 Nm, and continues the long QV tradition that began as a simple request for good luck and ended up becoming a symbol for something even more magical: track records and race victories from Alfa Romeo and the drivers who campaigned them.

In 1923, legendary Alfa Romeo racecar driver Ugo Sivocci wanted to break a string of second- place finishes. So, when he was preparing for the legendary Targa Florio race in Sicily, he painted a white square with a “Quadrifoglio”, or four-leaf clover, on the front of his Alfa Romeo Rl Targa Florio. And, as luck would have it, he finished in first place. Weeks later, Sivocci was track-testing a new car that didn’t yet bear his lucky symbol. Tragically, he crashed and lost his life. And a legend was born.

This marked the beginning of a tradition: all future Alfa Romeo race cars would bear the four-leaf clover on a white triangle – with the missing corner symbolising the loss of Sivocci. Later, the Quadrifoglio was also used to designate high-performance Alfa Romeo street vehicles like the 1963 Giulia Ti Super, the 1965 Giulia Sprint GTA and now, the all-new Giulia Quadrifoglio. Today, Sivocci’s clover remains a symbol of race-worthy capabilities and, of course, a symbol of good luck.

Witnessing GCC and International participation Saudi Elenex Exhibition Kicks Off in May

With an extensive Gulf and International participation, the Saudi Elenex and Saudi Aircon Exhibitions will kick off during the period between 14 to May 16, 2017 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre,

STUNNING RENAULT MEGANE SEDAN DEBUTS IN THE KINGDOM

The all-new Renault Megane, the latest from the French renowned automaker, was unveiled in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a ceremony held in honor of company senior officials from Renault, Gulf Advantage Automobiles (GAA) and esteemed members of the press.

Mr. Marwan Haidamous, Managing Director of Renault Middle East, commented to the media on the occasion and said that: “The Megane family is expanding with the introduction of a four-door version – the new Renault Megane Sedan. This model completes Renault’s offering in the C-segment and strengthens the brand’s position in markets where compact saloons remain the preferred choice amongst motorists looking for a comfortable and spacious vehicle that reflects their social status.”

Mr. Haidamous also commented on the new sedan launch stating: “Courtesy of its dynamic styling and its range of features from the next segment up, the new Renault Megane Sedan represents a genuine upmarket shift, which enables the brand’s latest model to position itself as the new benchmark in the compact saloon category.”

The new Megane Sedan contributes to the brand’s global growth and the extension of its product range. Based upon Renault’s CMF C/D architecture, the new Renault Megane Sedan was conceived, designed and developed in tandem with the new Megane, launched at the beginning of 2016. This means it benefits from the same features, technology and engine variants as its five-door sibling, while adding record-breaking roominess for its class with generous space for its occupants and a boot volume of 550dm3 VDA.

Measuring 4,632 mm long and 1,814 mm wide, with a very long wheelbase of 2,711 mm, this is one very handsome C-segment sedan with nice proportions. Contributing factors are the car’s low height (1,443 mm), low ground clearance (136 mm) and the widest tracks in the class.

Renault is also proud of the car’s large 550-litre boot and “coupe-like silhouette”. Chrome detailing on the grille, side moldings, door window strips, door handles and exhaust tailpipes adorn high spec variants. Wheel sizes go up to 18 inches in diameter. Its panoramic sliding glass roof is a class first and improves aesthetics. The car’s front and rear light signatures will not be mistaken for anything else out there.

The dashboard is as per the Megane hatch, dominated by the same optional portrait-format 8.7 inch capacitive touchscreen (with pinch-to-zoom functionality) for the R-Link 2 infotainment system. Also offered is a 7.0-inch TFT LCD instrument display, a colour head-up display and a Multi-Sense system with five driving modes.

The engine range starts from the SCe 115, a 1.6 litre naturally aspirated unit with 115 hp and 156 Nm, paired to either a five-speed manual or Nissan’s Xtronic CVT automatic. Moving up, there’s the Energy TCe 130 EDC. This combo is made up of a 1.2 litre turbo engine with 130 hp and 205 Nm, mated to a 6MT or seven-speed EDC dual clutch automatic.

The new four-door sedan is part of the renewal of the Renault range. Its dynamic and prestigious styling is reflected in sculpted surfaces, well-balanced proportions, a Renault-family front end, and a distinctive C-shaped front light signature. The glass roof linking the windscreen to the rear window lends an elegant and esthetic two-tone look.

 Holger Schroth, General Manager

 With a long and distinguished career in hospitality, Holger Schroth brings a wealth of international experience and an affinity for the UAE to Abu Dhabi’s landmark property.

Prior to his appointment at Emirates Palace, Schroth spent three years with the Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, where he oversaw the much-anticipated opening of the hotel and held a dual role as General Manager and Area Director of South East Asia.

In close to three decades of outstanding service in the hotel industry, Schroth’s sterling career has included various executive positions at Kempinski hotels in Germany, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

The appointment at Emirates Palace marks his return to the United Arab Emirates, having served as General Manager for Hotel Kempinski Mall of the Emirates Dubai from 2008 to 2010.

Fluent in German, English, French and Spanish, Schroth holds a European Executive MBA from Reims Management School in France, as well as academic and industry certifications from the United States and Germany.

Leon Baum, Hotel Manager

With an illustrious career highlighted by quick growth, and experience holding senior positions in two of Kempinski’s leading properties, Leon Baum is an integral member of the Emirates Palace management team.

A British national, Baum brings 17 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry to his role.

He began his career in the Front Office department at The Sloane Club in London, quickly working up the ladder to Front Office Manager before moving to the Dukes Hotel, London.

Baum began his career with Kempinski Hotels in 2006 at the prestigious The Stafford London by Kempinski. By 2011, he had risen to take the position of General Manager, before moving to Ciragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul in 2013, where he held the position of Hotel Manager.

Baum joined Emirates Palace in August 2014. He oversees the daily operations at the iconic Abu Dhabi hotel, playing an active role in implementing key strategies and new initiatives throughout the property.

 Stefan Trepp, Executive Chef

 With an illustrious career spanning over twenty years in premier hotels and restaurants in his native Switzerland and around the world, Chef Stefan Trepp is at the heart of the culinary experience at Emirates Palace. He made culinary waves as a young sous chef and as the Executive Chef of Emirates Palace, will continue to consistently inspire the palates of discerning guests with avant-garde creations that are both visually stimulating and delightfully flavourful.

With a brigade of over 100 chefs and kitchens, Chef Stefan brings to bear an innate passion and a great wealth of knowledge in running large operations and in concept design, to continue to maintain Emirates Palace’s positioning in the area of fine dining. He has received many accolades, the most recent of which was the ‘2015 Schweizer Star Im Ausland’ (2015 Swiss Star Abroad) from the prestigious Gault & Millau, and has left an indelible mark in five-star properties he has worked in like the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok and the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Sandra Newman, Chief Concierge

 Sandra Newman started her hospitality career in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked in various 5-star properties, forming the solid foundation which would pave her way in the world of hospitality.

Sandra obtained her Clefs D’or Golden Keys Concierge status in Abu Dhabi in 2010, showcasing the First Female Clefs D’or in the UAE.

This has added more flair to her profile, with professional connections to the Clefs D’or Society “Service through Friendship” unlocking several different doors in the view of exceeding guest expectations in all ways possible.

 Bouchra Souizi, Lady in Red

 Bouchra Souizi holds the prestigious post of Lady in Red at Emirates Palace.

Bouchra pursued university studies in biology, however, her passion for travel and interest in hospitality led her to an early career with Saudi Arabian Airlines as flight attendant.

She began her career at Emirates Palace in 2005 as a guest relations officer. Over the years, Bouchra showed exceptional ability in guest relations and proved capable of taking on a new role as the hotel’s Kempinski Ambassador, the Lady in Red.

Fluent in several languages and adept at guest relation management, Bouchra is indispensable as the Lady in Red at Emirates Palace. Her success throughout the ten years with the property reflects her passion and devotion to the hotel’s guests.

Sony Mobile achieves profitability goals this year The Middle East & Africa region is a strategically important growth market for Sony Mobile Xperia XZ Premium, winner of several top industry awards including ‘Best Smartphone at MWC 2017’, leads innovation push

Sony Mobile Communications has shown strong global financial performance by reporting a profit of 10.2 Billion Yen (US$ 91 Million) this year, as per financial results from the company.

Continuing its growth trend, Sony Mobile expects to increase annual smartphone unit sales by 1.9 million year-on-year, mainly in the Middle East and Europe, to 16.5 million units. Sales revenue is expected to increase 8 per cent year-on-year to 820 Billion Yen, which will be a record operating income for Sony Mobile.

Sony Mobile has put emphasis on higher value-added models to achieve profitability. Operating results improved significantly mainly due to a reduction in operating costs and benefit from restructuring initiatives. Further improvement in profitability resulted from a concentration on fewer geographic areas and a reduction in restructuring charges.

Jason Smith, Vice President, Middle East & Africa at Sony Mobile Communications said: “Advances included in our new smartphones have positioned us as a technological leader in the global market and our innovation gives us confidence for the future. Our latest award-winning smartphone, Xperia XZ Premium, features the world’s 1st Super slow motion video capture via a smartphone at 960 frames per second, four times slower than with any other smartphone. Other products to address the mid-range of the market launched this year include Xperia XA1, the XA1 Ultra and the Xperia L1.”

Sony Corporation, of which Sony Mobile is a division, is targeting its highest annual operating profit in two decades, thanks to continued dominance in gaming and strong growth in phone-camera chips. Operating profit is on track to reach 500 Billion Yen for the fiscal year through March 2018, which will be more than that posted in any year since 1998.

In this context, the Saudi Healthcare exhibition 2017 will kick off its fifth edition during the period from 8 to 10 May 2017 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre; with the participation of 24 countries including Canada, China, Indonesia, Italy, Netherlands and United Arab Emirates, and under the platinum sponsorship from Siemens Healthineers, and golden sponsorship from Massimo, and the strategic partners the Saudi health council, the council of cooperative health insurance, King Fahed medical city in addition to Saudi management association.
