Holiday Inn® Hotels & Resorts, the most recognised hotel brand in the world, has partnered with acclaimed international food artist, Samantha Lee, to encourage family-friendly ‘fun dining’. Using dishes from the brand’s new Kids Menu, Samantha has transformed five dishes from the nutritionally balanced new menu into kid-friendly works of art.

Using the theme of animal portraits, each artwork created by Samantha has been designed to engage kids and their parents and encourage them to explore nutritious eating in a fun way. With the corresponding and easy to follow ‘how-to’ guides, parents are given all the tips they need to recreate food art at home using the original Holiday Inn Kids Menu recipes.

As part of a lively event that took place at the Holiday Inn Olaya, attendees and their children were part of a unique multi-sensory food experience. Together with our chefs, the children learned how to have fun by creating food art using the Holiday Inn Kids Menu!

Speaking about her creations for Holiday Inn, Samantha Lee said: “I started off creating food art for my daughter to encourage her to be more adventurous with food, so a partnership with Holiday Inn to help inspire thousands of children and their parents, helping them discover new and exciting flavours is a cause that I knew I had to be a part of. Not only do we want kids to get excited about balanced eating, we want parents to see how to make food fun for their little ones.

“It’s great that a brand is really getting behind proper eating for children and the food art that I’ve created as part of the Holiday Inn Kids Menu will take them on a cultural, as well as taste, adventure using some of the great Kids Menu recipes designed with Nutrition Australia.”

Lee Lin Teo, Head of Brand Marketing (Holiday Inn Brand Family, Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites) AMEA, IHG said: “Holiday Inn has always been about family – we were the first brand to launch a ‘Kids Stay & Eat Free’ programme – and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve the experience we offer to guests, and food is a big part of the travel experience. We created our new Kids Menu because we wanted to make sure families are making the most of their time together, with kids enjoying colourful and tasty dishes and with parents relaxed knowing that all the dishes have been created with nutrition at their core.

“After such good feedback from our guests on the new Kids Menu dishes we thought that we could take it even further by turning them into works of art with the very talented Samantha Lee. We hope that parents and kids are inspired to explore food as a bonding experience, both with us at Holiday Inn hotels and resorts and when the holiday is over at home.”

Message to our Saudi friends

%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%b3%d9%81%d9%8a%d8%b1-%d8%a7%d9%84%d9%81%d8%b1%d9%86%d8%b3%d9%8a

After nine years of an unforgettable stay in Saudi Arabia, my wife and I are leaving definitely your country on the 8th of October.

It is with choking emotion that we leave the kingdom, which we consider our home and which our children, now adults, have been enjoying visiting frequently. How can one not admire the beauty of the desert, the mountains and the sea of this magnificent country? We have visited the many Kingdom provinces and were astounded by its breathtaking landscapes and by the legendary hospitality of its inhabitants. Above all are of course the true friends that we are leaving here and who undoubtedly will remain as such. Loyalty is indeed a Saudi trait.

To all our friends –officials and private individuals– we thank you, from the bottom of our heart for all these years that we spent together and which will remain a treasure for us.

I would like to seize the opportunity to tell our friends that, professionally, I was lucky to live an exceptional experience. Despite a very challenging regional environment, Saudi Arabia remains a pole of stability and development, as well as an international actor whose role is increasingly important day after day. Riyadh has become, in a way, the new capital of the Arab world; and its points of views have to be taken into consideration by the great powers. The fast economic development in the Kingdom during the recent years has deeply changed the life of its inhabitants. Thanks to King Abdullah’s determination, Saudi women play an increasing role in the society. The young people outspokenly express on the social networks their aspirations for more jobs and increased entertainment.

The Kingdom is thus a stable but forward moving country. The global changes– emergence of a multipolar world, energy and environmental policies’ evolution – should be everyone’s concern and the Kingdom is adapting to that. In King Salman’2030 vision this bold analysis of the situation provides the Saudi citizens with new perspectives.

It is indeed difficult to change one’s habits and some really fear the impact of the reforms. However, the general orientations are the good ones and the Kingdom can rely on valuable assets that it can use. Proper consultations between the main economic players, will enable the Kingdom to recover growth and gain confidence in its future. Moreover, the Kingdom assumes its responsibilities with increasing strength in the international relations. It is in difficult moments that we need our friends. As you know, France has been a friend of the Arabs and a reliable partner of the Kingdom since the visit paid by King Faysal to General De Gaulle in 1967. During the recent years, we have significantly strengthened our cooperation in all fields and I am proud to have contributed to it.

In the new international context, Saudi Arabia can rely on France. We share the same views about the regional situation. We have an exemplary cooperation in the security and military fields. Our economic and cultural exchanges have grown tremendously. I am convinced that French technology, in many of its leading aspects of interest to Saudi Arabia as well as our expertise in public and private partnerships and in training – both technical and professional – will facilitate the increase of joint ventures between French and Saudi companies, large, medium and small. I feel confident in the continuing reinforcement of our strategic partnership.

Allow me to conclude this message by conveying again our sincere thanks with our warm and friendly wishes for the future and our hopes to see you often.

Long live to the friendship between France and Saudi Arabia!

Bertrand BESANCENOT

French ambassador to the Kingdom

Novo Nordisk launches Tresiba® a new generation basal insulin in [Saudi Arabia]

%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%b3%d9%83%d8%b1%d9%8a

Today, Novo Nordisk has launched Tresiba® (insulin degludec), in Saudi Arabia. Tresiba® is a once-daily basal insulin for people with diabetes that successfully achieves equivalent reductions in blood glucose levels, with a lower risk of nocturnal hypoglycaemia versus insulin glargine1,2. Tresiba® allows for flexibility in day-to-day dosing time, when needed without compromising efficacy or risk of hypoglycaemia3-5.

One of the key challenges with insulin therapy is the risk of hypoglycaemia, when blood glucose levels fall to lower than normal levels, causing unpleasant symptoms, such as dizziness and confusion, unconsciousness and sometimes leads to death6,7. Research shows that fears and concerns about hypoglycaemia can interfere with achieving optimal glycaemic control in people with diabetes using insulin8. Hypoglycaemia that occurs at night is of particular concern9 for people living with diabetes, as it is unpredictable and difficult to detect10.

Results from studies over a two-year period show Tresiba® successfully achieves equivalent reductions in HbA1c, but with a lower risk of nocturnal hypoglycaemia compared to insulin glargine:

  • 43% for people with type 2 diabetes1
  • 25% for people with type 1 diabetes2

“Maintaining good blood glucose control with insulin treatment can be challenging for healthcare professionals and patients due to concerns over hypoglycaemia and night-time hypoglycaemia in particular. Tresiba® has shown less risk of nocturnal hypoglycaemia than the most widely used basal insulin,” said Vikrant Shrotriya, VP Gulf, Novo Nordisk.

“Tresiba® can be administered at any time of the day, offering flexible dosing when needed. This flexibility could help improve the lives of patients, as poor insulin adherence contributes to poor glycaemic control.” said Dr.Saleh Aljaser.

“We are glad that people with diabetes in Saudi Arabia will get access to Tresiba® which will help them enjoy better lives and manage their diabetes” said Mads Bo Larsen, CVP BAGIE, Novo Nordisk.

Complications from diabetes caused by failing to keep optimal glycaemic control can be serious, and may include problems such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, nerve damage and premature mortality11,12. In Saudi Arabia, where 4.7 million people live with diabetes,1.4 million adult patients are still undiagnosed and the number of diabetes-related deaths was 23,420 in 201513.

At the end Dr.Saleh Aljaser who is a consultant endocrinologist in National Guard hospital and the head of Saudi Society for Endocrinology and Metabolism (SSEM) has shared his scientific experience in using Tresiba® . Also Dr.Saud Alsifri who is a consultant endocrinologist in Alhada Armed Forces Hospital and the chairman of the specialised medical center talked about hypoglycaemia as one of the major barriers in diabetes management.
