Additionally, each hotel is featured on Marriott.com – the eighth largest retail website in the world. In addition to their placement on Marriott.com, each property is showcased in its own unique way on the Collection’s award winning standalone site, www.autographhotels.com.

SAP Delivers New Business Applications for Internet of Things Solutions in Maintenance and Service, Logistics, and Manufacturing Support Middle East’s Networked Economy and Smart Cities

hhg

SAP has announced three new SAP solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), supporting the Middle East’s fast-paced Networked Economy and growing Smart Cities.

The new solutions include the SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service solution, SAP Connected Logistics software and the SAP Manufacturing Execution application, leveraging the SAP HANA Cloud Platform for application enablement and advanced capabilities such as in-memory computing, predictive analytics and complex event processing.

As part of its continued commitment to enable innovation in this space, SAP has announced the addition of 500 incremental dedicated developers to support various IoT initiatives.

“The Internet of Things will be the key enabler of industry scenarios and of innovations in the digital economy,” said Bernd Leukert, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, Products & Innovation. “It is converging our digital and physical worlds, which will spur new products and services, and even change business models.

“The Internet of Things has the potential to dramatically improve responsiveness of businesses, reimagine customer experience and open up new opportunities and brand new business models such as move from sell-to-service based models. SAP customers that have already implemented Internet of Things solutions have seen considerable improvement in asset utilization and higher business process efficiency and helped address operational costs,” added Bern Leukert.

SAP solutions for the IoT are powered by the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, which is the core application development and enablement platform and provides the ability to generate real-time insights from sensor data and advanced capabilities such as in-memory computing, geo-spatial, telematics, predictive analytics and complex event processing. In addition, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform offers open APIs that allow third-party providers to develop IoT applications.

SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service

Built on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service is planned to deliver deep unified insight by integrating operations and analytics on a single platform.

To support innovation for continuous performance improvement, the solution is envisioned to help optimize the value of hard-won business and technical data as well as data from unstructured documents from various sources. The solution intends to help assess historic and sensor data to assist users in predicting a malfunction before it occurs to help prevent a negative impact on profits.

Additionally, the SAP AR Service Technician mobile app empowers field technicians to complete work orders automatically generated by SAP Predictive Maintenance and Service in a hands-free environment using smart glass.

SAP Connected Logistics

Built on SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP Connected Logistics is planned to allow logistics hub operators and others to monitor traffic toward and within a hub and facilitate communication between involved parties including those that do not have a direct business relationship.

Furthermore, the software is planned to offer integration to backend transportation management systems, and lean dispatching capabilities for logistics service providers that do not have a sophisticated backend solution in place.

SAP Connected Logistics customers can also use the recently announced AR warehouse picker mobile app that leverages wearable technology such as smart glass devices for a complete hands free operation, helping to eliminate the need for handheld scanners.

Connected Manufacturing from SAP

SAP Manufacturing Execution version 15.0 is envisioned to enable the Internet of Things for manufacturing operations.

By integrating manufacturing results with real-time feeds into the SAP HANA platform, companies are expected to take advantage of the cloud for orchestrating and optimizing global operations — beyond a single production plant, use predictive analytics to drive cost efficiencies and achieve higher asset utilization.

The new release includes support for SAP HANA, enhanced user experience, extended mobility and end-to-end enterprise integration for deeper manufacturing transparency. Leveraging SAP Manufacturing Execution with SAP HANA helps accelerate the promise of Industry 4.0 for innovative manufacturers.

High-ranking delegation of German businessman in Riyadh to boost Food & Beverage Industry

غذاء

The German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs organized a delegation trip of German companies with focus on food and beverages to Riyadh from 08.12.–11.12.2014. The delegation was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and headed by its Deputy Head of Division Dr. Artur Ickstadt. In Riyadh the delegation held a presentation event of the German Food and Beverage Industry on the first day at the Marriot Hotel, followed by three days of business-to-business meetings. “Germany has a reputation as a provider of state-of-the-art technologies and know-how, but it is also as a global top food producer and the world’s third largest food exporter,” said Andreas Hergenroether, Delegate of German Industry and Commerce for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen”. The delegation met with high-ranking businessmen of the Saudi food and beverage industry. Representatives of hyper market giants Othaim, Tamimi and Lulu attended the presentation event and established ties with the German companies like Teekanne, Pickenpack Europe, Powermints and Baikal Getränke. Saudi Arabia is one of the leading importers of food in the Middle East. Currently around 75% of all food sold in Saudi Arabia is imported. Due to the high population growth and rising household incomes, this will not change in the short and medium term. Because groundwater resources and agriculture will be further reduced, Saudi Arabia is still dependent on food imports. German companies benefit from this demographic change, because the label “Made in Germany” is known for its quality in the food industry. Germany has a wide range of food and specialties. The agriculture and food industry is working at the highest level of quality and has a good reputation abroad. The Saudi Arabian food market is interesting for German companies from various sectors – from organic products, stimulants such as tea, coffee and sweets to cereal grains like wheat. “It becomes apparent that German food and agricultural products are already well-positioned in the Saudi market, but here is still a very high potential for the future,” Hergenroether added.

Middle East and Africa PC market posts steady growth 4.26 million units were shipped in Q3 2014

idci

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) PC market posted year-on-year growth in Q3 2014, spurred in large part by two significant education deals in Pakistan and the revival of the Egyptian market.

The latest figures announced today by International Data Corporation (IDC) show that the market expanded 2.1% in volume terms during the quarter to reach a total of 4.26 million units. As in the previous quarter, growth was seen across both the desktop and portable PC segments.

IDC data shows that desktop shipments to MEA increased 3.6% year on year in Q3 2014 to total 1.73 million units, while shipments of portable PCs were up 1.1% over the same period to total 2.53 million units. Vendors were seen shipping a growing volume of notebooks carrying Microsoft’s ‘Bing’ internet search solution to the region, but despite being aggressively priced at around $300, there wasn’t much demand for these devices during the quarter.

“The market overcame ongoing instability in certain parts of the region to maintain its state of growth in Q3 2014,” says Fouad Rafiq Charakla, research manager for personal computing, systems, and infrastructure solutions at IDC Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

“For example, the Nigerian market was hit hard by the outbreak of Ebola, while the war-like situation in Iraq greatly inhibited shipments to the ‘Rest of the Middle East’ sub-region comprising Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, and Afghanistan.”

“Vendors also had to contend with a general slowdown in PC demand across the region due to the growing popularity of tablets and smartphones,” continues Charakla.

“Indeed, an overall regional decline was only averted by the delivery of 150,000 notebooks into Pakistan’s education sector and the return of relative calm to Egypt, which saw these two countries become by far the fastest growing markets during the quarter.”

The three leading PC vendors in MEA remained unchanged from the previous quarter, and it is worth noting that these three vendors are the only multinational players to have maintained a stronghold in the region’s commercial segment. HP continued to lead in terms of market share, posting year-on-year unit growth of 14.4% for the quarter. Second-placed Lenovo continued to benefit from strong consumer demand and was again the fastest growing major PC vendor in the region, increasing its shipments 58.2% year on year. Third-ranked Dell recorded 23.0% year-on-year growth, with one of the previously mentioned education deals in Pakistan serving as a major driver for the vendor.

“Looking to the future, IDC expects the MEA PC market to shrink 2.0% overall in 2014,” says Charakla. “The market will remain close to flat over the coming five years, and may even experience some minor declines, with demand for both desktops and portable PCs continuing to slow in many parts of the region. However, a number of underpenetrated MEA markets – including Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, and some smaller African countries – will continue to experience growth, preventing the overall region from experiencing any significant declines.”

Trend Micro’s Q3 Security Roundup Details Unprecedented Vulnerabilities and New, Sophisticated Techniques Adware Top Threat in the Middle East, while Region Posts 1.5 Million Malware Detections in Q3 2014

ta

The third quarter saw a significant event with the new critical vulnerability, known as Shellshock, that threatenedmore than half a billion servers and devices worldwide.

This major development, as well as an uptick in volume and sophistication of cyber-attacks are detailed in Trend Micro Incorporated’s (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704) latest quarterly security roundup report, “VulnerabilitiesUnder Attack:Shedding Light on the Growing Attack Surface.”The reportalso reveals web platform and mobile app vulnerabilities that have broadened significantly, resulting in high-impact attacks on businesses and consumers alike.

In the Middle East, the top threat is adware, while the region saw 1.5 million malware detections in Q3 2014. Online banking malware, ransomware, malicious websites and mobile apps continue to present high risk. Email reputation queries (spam email) totalled 24 million in Q3 2014, including 14 million in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 8 million in the UAE, and 2 million in the rest of the Middle East.

“Our findings confirm that we are battling rapidly moving cybercriminals and evolving vulnerabilities simultaneously,” said Raimund Genes, CTO, Trend Micro. “With this fluidity, it’s time to embrace the fact that compromises will continue, and we shouldn’t be alarmed or surprised when they occur.”

“Preparation is key and as an industry we must better educate organizations and consumers about heightened risks as attacks grow in volume and in sophistication. Understanding that cybercriminals are finding vulnerabilities and potential loopholes in every device and platform possible will help us confront these challenges so technology can be used in a positive way,” added Raimund Genes.

The report dissects vulnerabilities, such as Shellshock, which threatens popular operating systems, including Linux, UNIX and Mac OS X. The surprising discovery of the Shellshock vulnerability emerged after going unnoticed for more than 20 years, suggesting the likelihood of more long, undiscovered vulnerabilities lurking withinwithoperating systems or applications.

Vulnerabilities in mobile platforms and appsare also proving to be a greater challenge. As in previous quarters, the report cites that significant and critical vulnerabilities were found in mobile platforms, such as Android.Exploit kits were highly utilized in Web platforms and provided cybercriminals another resource to compromise victim’s systems.

In an effort to steal credit card information and money, the report also reveals that threat actors are targeting large retailers’ Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems to execute massive data breaches. This ongoing practice further indicates that PoS networks are highly accessible and vulnerable. Cyber thieves also utilized updated versions of older versions of popular malware and online banking malware to successfully target victims.
