LG launches fourth generation of VRF solution Multi V IV designed specifically for Saudi market

In line with the new energy performance standard (MEPS) for the energy efficiency ratio (EER) for air conditioners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and that was implemented by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) at the beginning of the current year, LG Electronics and Al Hassan Ghazi Ibrahim Shaker Company, the sole distributor for LG air conditioners in the Kingdom, recently announced the launch of its best ever Multi- V IV Tropical VRF solution that delivers maximum performance with remarkable energy efficiency.

Developed to cater to the needs of the Saudi consumers, the new Multi V IV Tropical is the very embodiment of LG’s consumer-centric, region-specific ethos.

“LG adopted all Inverter compressors technology which provides excellent energy saving solutions especially under partial load operations. Under region-fitness effort of LG, an ‘Auto Dust Removal’ function maintains a superb performance during high temperatures and hard weather conditions,” said by Mr. Deuk Soo Ahn, President of LG Electronics, Saudi Arabia.

“The Multi V IV Tropical’s superior 4.78 coefficient of performance (COP) and an EER of 16.3 (10HP model) is a result of LG’s commitment to developing and implementing highly efficient Air Conditioning solutions. Accompanied with the latest technologies in the Air Conditioning industry, Multi V IV Tropical is equipped with a ‘High Pressure Oil Return’ (HiPOR™) system to effectively eliminate a major cause of ‘hidden energy loss’. A frequency operational range of 15~150Hz for the Inverter compressors also improves partial loads efficiencies across the entire line-up of Multi V IV Tropical.” said Mr. Young Hwan Ahn, CAC Senior Product Manager LG Electronics, Saudi Arabia. Another technological advancement that also maximizes the performance further is the ‘Active Refrigerant Control’ feature which optimizes the refrigerant amount for each operating mode (cooling, heating, and partial load). The Multi V IV tropical also employs six bypass valves, instead of the typical four-valve arrangement, resulting in precise refrigerant control as well as more economical performance in part load.

LG’s new Multi V IV Tropical model boasts outstanding performance capabilities. “The success of our newly launched product comes as a result of the extensive market understanding that has enabled Shaker LG to provide Air Conditioning solutions with topnotch technologies and features such as the advanced Inverter compressor, uniquely designed heat exchanger and cycle control, which have made from the Multi V IV Tropical a unique solution that works reliably in ambient temperatures up to 54 degrees Celsius. The new Multi V IV Tropical model that we as Market Leaders are introducing today, is part of the commitment that we have given to the Saudi consumer and that aims to providing them with premium Air Conditioning products equipped with the latest technology and compliant to the Saudi regulations and standards” said Mr. Jameel Al Molhem, Managing Director of Al Hassan Ghazi Ibrahim Shaker Company.

By taking full advantage of the Multi V IV Tropical’s power-saving features, consumers will be enjoying a reduction in operational costs while benefiting from the maximum performance, durability and remarkable energy efficiency solutions

Industrial Users Conference at CeBIT – NEW: Conference offers dialogue opportunities for IT sector and users – Valuable insights provided by high-calibre speakers from industry

How much IT does an airline require? And how can IT improve the healthcare system? Industrial users are today more reliant than ever on IT solutions that simplify, streamline and automate their processes. The Industrial Users Conference at CeBIT is dedicated to this important topic. Boasting an array of focal points, the five-day event is designed to bring together experts from specific sectors:

On Monday, 10 March, the focus will be on energy and in particular security in smart grids and processing centres as key technologies in the transition from fossil fuels to renewables.

On the Tuesday, Industrie 4.0 takes centre stage. Christian Illek, CEO of Microsoft Deutschland, explains: “Industrie 4.0 stands for global competition. The challenge is to reach the next evolutionary stage of industrial value added as quickly as possible. Companies that only move over to intelligent IT infrastructures in production are not doing enough. Machines and sensors that exchange data in an ‘Internet of Things’ are just one side of the coin. On the other side are the merging of production and corporate IT, the synchronization of industrial processes, business analyses and the resulting decision-making in real time. The Industrial Users Conference gives Microsoft an excellent platform on which to showcase its broad portfolio of solutions in concert with our partners.”

Automotive and aviation is the topic on Wednesday, 12 March. Dr. Gunter Küchler, Member of the Board of Lufthansa Systems AG, will talk about IT solutions for airlines during the Industrial Users Conference: “The business processes used by the airline industry are characterized by their exceedingly high complexity and dynamism. That’s why IT is a key success factor in this sector. Lufthansa Systems has developed a comprehensive range of innovative IT solutions that help over 300 airlines of all sizes to optimize their processes and survive in this highly competitive industry. During CeBIT we will demonstrate how our technological expertise and extensive experience of complex projects can assist customers from the airline industry and other sectors in gaining a strategic competitive advantage.”

Health and M2M solutions will be in the spotlight on Thursday. One of the participating companies is KYOCERA. Uwe Götze, Marketing Director at KYOCERA Document Solutions Deutschland GmbH, explains: “We will use our presentation at CeBIT to show IT decision-makers how optimized document processes can reduce costs and increase competitiveness. This is of prime importance in the healthcare sector as any cost reductions here must not impact on patients or personnel. We will therefore take advantage of the Industrial Users Conference to talk with managers in this area about the opportunities and benefits presented by the relevant solutions. Our specialist lecture will focus on the scanning of diagnosis paperwork in picture archiving and communication systems (or PACS), as well as the efficient sharing of information using electronic health records (EHRs).”

On Friday, 14 March, the keynote topics will be smart cities and logistics.

With top-ranking partners such as BITKOM, hannoverimpuls and the Industrie 4.0 platform, the Industrial Users Conference offers a high-calibre, innovative and informative network platform for experts in the IT industry and innovation drivers as well as decision-makers from user industries. Eminent speakers from the event’s Premium Sponsors – Lufthansa Systems, Kyocera and Microsoft – will offer forward-looking insights into industrial networking. The Industrial Users Conference in Hall 12 will boast an informative and attractive setting that includes showcases presented by industrial users.

The Industrial Users Conference attracts a high level of interest among its target group. In particular, there will be plenty to draw the attention of IT managers from user companies. Christoph Hecker, Director of VOICE e. V., elaborates: “As the association representing IT Users in Germany, we are very excited about this new conference format at CeBIT. IT has enormous potential, particularly in the manufacturing sectors, and increasingly that potential can be exploited through current topics such as Industrie 4.0, smart grids and the connected car. Our members can be sure to find inspiring new ideas and meet business partners of interest at the Industrial Users Conference.”

Fuel self-service extended to 20 more service stations

The fuel self-service introduced by Emirates Petroleum Product Company (EPPCO), to further enhance operational efficiency, has been extended to 15 more EPPCO stations and five  ENOC stations from midnight to 6am.

This takes the total number of fuel stations in the ENOC/EPPCO network offering fuel self-service during night hours to over 45. ENOC/EPPCO plans to implement the system across its entire network. Announcements for the public informing about the introduction of the service have been made at all the sites.

Among the new stations where self-serve is introduced are 10 service stations, which had earlier been closed from midnight to 6am. The introduction of the self-serve facility to these service stations adds to the convenience of motorists, who can conveniently meet their fuel requirements even during late-hours.

A company spokesperson said: “An increasing number of motorists are now utilising the fuel self-service facility. The recent activation of ViP (Vehicle Identification Pass), a radio frequency identification (RFID) based fuel retailing system at ENOC/EPPCO service stations, further adds to the convenience of commercial users and fleet owners, who can conveniently meet their fuel requirements securely. Our forecourt staff will extend all support to users of the ViP and self-serve.”

At the sites where the fuel self-service has been introduced, customers can now fuel themselves and pay at the pump. Commercial users and fleet owners who have registered for the ViP service will benefit from automated operations, and can fuel on-the-go without the need to pay in cash or use credit cards. ViP automatically recognises the registered vehicle being fuelled, and deducts the cost from the registered user’s account without the help of a service attendant.

Across the network, advanced and fully secure fuel dispenser systems have been introduced that are easier to use for the motorists. The introduction of self-service will result in no staff redundancies as affected staff members are being deployed in other service stations within the network.

The ENOC/EPPCO stations that operate as self-service during late hours are in Al Twar, Al Garhoud, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Rasheed Road, Port Rasheed Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Al Waheeda Road, Jumeirah Beach Road, Ras Al Khor, Al Ghusais, JAFZA, Al Aweer Road, Al Quoz, Al Badaa and Al Nahda.

EUROCHAMBRES’ better policy-making priorities for the next EU term

EUROCHAMBRES presented 10 better European policy-making priorities for the next five year EU legislative term during a major conference the association hosted today in the European Parliament. The Secretary-General of the Parliament, chairs of two of its key committees, the Deputy-Secretary General of the Commission and the Chair of the Commission’s High Level Group on Administrative Simplification, Edmund Stoiber, heard senior EUROCHAMBRES representatives highlight the importance of an efficient, evidence-based policy-making process to the business community’s economic recovery and growth.

EUROCHAMBRES’ priorities revolve around the need for the European Commission, Parliament, Council and member states to pursue the smart regulation agenda with renewed vigour, focussing on minimising the overall regulatory burden and ensuring an evidence-based approach to policy-making.

“Regulatory reform is sometimes perceived as a business agenda and indeed, companies – especially smaller ones – often suffer directly from regulatory and administrative burdens. However, poor policy making is detrimental to all political objectives – economic, social and environmental – and thus to Europe as a whole. It is in everyone’s interest that policies are prepared on the basis of thorough cost-benefit analysis”, said Richard Weber, President of EUROCHAMBRES.

Alongside requests to apply the “Think Small First” principle rigorously, carry out impact assessments on substantive amendments, publish correlation tables and introduce common commencement dates, EUROCHAMBRES asks to:

•               Secure a new commitment from the three EU institutions to minimise the overall regulatory burden, establishing a new target and putting in place a fast-track co-decision procedure for the swift adoption of burden reduction proposals;

•               Review the composition and working practices of the Commission’s Impact Assessment Board in order to ensure its independence and transparency and to facilitate its accessibility to the European Parliament and Council;

•               Publish all draft impact assessments and consult on their findings to maximise their quality and to facilitate the provision of missing data or the correction of inaccurate data.

Mr Weber added: “The ‘one in, one out’ methodology, as applied in certain member states, should be considered at EU level for the new term, with no new legislation being introduced unless comparatively burdensome existing requirements are withdrawn. In a period of fragile recovery and fierce global competition, the economy simply cannot absorb additional burdens.”

Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the University of Dubai (UD), and the Citi Foundation, Citi’s social investment arm, today celebrated the completion of the 10th Citi-funded Diploma Program in Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Development. Held for the first time in the Emirate of Fujairah, the program is also supported by the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development.

The program, which provides budding female entrepreneurs with a comprehensive support network and training scheme to establish their own businesses, has been designed and delivered by University of Dubai’s Centre for Executive Development (CED). The program aims to provide entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare their own business plans and in turn build successful, profitable enterprises.

This year 30 women from areas such as Al-Bidiya, Al-Murbah and Dibba participated in the first level of the program, with 22 going on complete the full program and submit business plans. These plans were reviewed by Citi Foundation and Khalifa Fund six of which were honoured at the recent graduation ceremony with Best Business Plan awards.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, H.E. Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, said: “Dubai Chamber founded the University of Dubai in 1997 with the aim to develop and build the region’s future leaders. UD’s Centre for Executive Development is fully committed to proving equality through education, and encouraging female economic participation in order to develop and diversify the UAE’s economy and future development. Through this CED program we are creating a platform to support and develop the ideas of local female entrepreneurs into the established businesses throughout the UAE, the region and the rest of the world”

He added: “We are very grateful to Citi Foundation for continuously providing funding for this initiative, year on year. Their generous support has allowed University of Dubai to build a thriving team of highly qualified experts, successful business leaders, entrepreneurs, mentors and consultants from across public and private organisations, who engage proactively with us in delivering workshops, and providing continuous support and mentoring to our entrepreneurs.”

“This is the first time the program is being delivered in Fujairah, in collaboration with Khalifa Fund, with the aim of providing entrepreneurs with a fully supportive ecosystem to facilitate the establishment of business in their home towns. This support will continue following the completion of the program, until women have successfully established their businesses. The aim of this scheme is not only to produce future business leaders and employers, but also to foster a culture of entrepreneurial spirit amongst local woman through every part of the UAE, which is essential in developing a strong and diversified economy for our country.”

H.E. Abdullah Saeed Al Darmaki, Chief Executive Officer of Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development said that the support that Khalifa Fund is giving to this initiative falls in line with tour endeavour to support the government’s efforts that enable women to perform a vital role in the business sector.

Al Darmaki indicated that Khalifa Fund has launched various programs and initiatives with an aim to integrate Emirati women into the business sector. He added that the Fund, through its ‘Sogha’ initiative, has succeeded in transforming more than 400 female Emiratis into successful business women, who are now playing a vital role in increasing their family’s income throughout the UAE.

He acknowledged the success of the partnership with University of Dubai and Citi Foundation, expressing his hope for the continuation of this cooperation in launching more high quality initiatives in the future.

He also indicated that the Fund began to expand its services to other Emirates, aside from Abu Dhabi, in 2011, and has since opened three branches, including Fujairah. So far, the Fujairah branch has provided financing to around 42 projects, with a total value of around AED 15 million and organised around 20 training courses, which have benefitted around 320 male and female Nationals in the Emirate.

Commenting on the program, Mr. Karim Seifeddine, Public Affairs and Government Relations Head, Citi, said: “Together with the University of Dubai, we’ve succeeded in designing and delivering a rigorous training program on entrepreneurship and Business plan development which has been addressing the entrepreneurial qualifications of women entrepreneurs around the country and arming them with the necessary skills, and knowledge base.

“The program has evolved into a model for academic training on entrepreneurial skills as it teaches all the necessary elements for succeeding in the business world. Furthermore, we are proud that the program has enlisted the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, as well as key community players in the SME space such as Khalifa Fund for Economic Development, among others, who are playing a vital role in recruiting, mentoring and supporting trainees.”

Citi has been present in the Arab World for more than fifty years and continues to view the region as critical to its global franchise. Throughout this period, the bank has evolved into an active corporate citizen, with a particular interest in supporting financial literacy, education, and entrepreneurship.

This female-only initiative, which is fully supported and funded by the Citi Foundation, has impacted over 300 women entrepreneurs since its launch in 2004, and many of them are running successful business ventures today.

The event was held at Al Diar Siji Hotel, Fujairah and was attended by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al-Raqbani, special advisor to Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council, H.E.
